Installed 850 feet of 8-inch Ductile Iron Waterline, 18 new water services, and 450 feet of 24-in reinforced concrete storm sewer pipe along side historic buildings and among other existing utilities in downtown Glenwood Springs.
Challenges included accommodating pedestrian access to all store fronts during heavy tourist season, which was achieved by arranging mobile railing around work areas and placing custom, ADA compliant ramps across open trenches when necessary. Extra caution was taken to respect the fragility of 17 historic buildings standing within 10 feet of the work area, by using low impact equipment and alternative methods for trenching and backfilling. Maintaining a good repor with business owners and patrons was especially important during this project, as it was very necessary to construct, yet also very intrusive to the hustle and bustle of daily downtown business happenings.
